Packing For Your Family Trip

Bring the Right Stuff! When packing for family trips, less really is more. As in, the less stuff you're lugging around, the more freedom you'll have.To help you create your own "packing list," we've organized our suggestions into four groups:* Documents* Clothing basics* "Must haves"* Memory makersFirst, ask yourself a few questions:Who is going? Traveling with infants and toddlers, resist the urge to take everything under the sun. For older kids, consider that many ordinary things can be shared. For example, girls may insist on having their own blow dryer at home, but when traveling, one is enough. What do you plan on taking? How many suitcases? What kind - duffle bags or roller bags? Are the kids old enough to help or will it be up to the adults to lug everything (and kids) around? You may need to run for a departing plane/train/boat, so don't take more luggage than you can carry.
Where are you going? This is the biggie: trekking through the jungles of Guatemala, for example, requires quite different footwear than play-going in London. When are you going? Sailing around the Mediterranean in July is different from hiking the Andes in July. December in Bali is warm and tropical, December in Amsterdam is cold and snowy. Check out the weather for your destination in advance.DocumentsEagle Creek Undercover Passport/Money CaseWe can recommend these money belts from personal experience - comfortable and won't bulge at your waist. But before thinking of a single thing to wear, there's something more important than how you'll look - your travel documents. Some things take more time to put together. This might be one of your first checklists.Sight-seeing should be distracting - so rather than worrying about pick-pockets, consider a zippered money belt or waist wallet for your valuables. In South America and India, we've worn money belts for weeks, months at a time.Clothing BasicsBelieve us: you will be able to do laundry. Don't pack something for every day of your trip, and take things that can serve double duty.Travel outfit - This is the outfit you wear when on the long plane, train, car ride. It should be loose fitting and comfortable, and have lots of pockets for essentials and surprises. Keep in mind that airplanes are often chilly.Behind the scenes - Have enough underwear and socks so that you can rotate them comfortably. Remember to take different weight socks for different footwear or weather.Footwear - Walking shoes, sandals, dressy shoes should cover basic needs. Tip: Try all-terrain sandals or water shoes if you'll be tromping around rocky beaches or in rivers. Dressy shoes should be nice, but not fragile or too costly: anything can happen in a suitcase, or on a cobblestone street. If you have laced shoes, bring extra laces.Exploring outfits - There's always an adventure worth hiking or biking to reach. In warm weather, you'll want shorts, lightweight tops and windbreakers (to block out sudden chills). Hats are essential - bring caps with wide brims to protect from the sun.In cold weather, you'll want loose, comfortable but well-lined lightweight clothes. Plan to layer your clothes for warmth (e.g. a T-shirt or turtle-neck, long-sleeved shirt, then jacket.) Tip: Polartec fleeces are light, warm, and will dry over night if you need to rinse off some "exploration" dirt along the way.Even if it isn't the rainy season - Hooded windbreakers or train ponchos (thin plastic that folds into tiny, easy to pack pouches) work well in unexpected downpours. Even in the tropics, if you go to highland areas, the temperature can cool dramatically; a light windbreaker is good for damp, misty weather.Dressy outfit - You've planned a real rough-and-tumble adventure trip and you don't think you'll need this? After a week of camping and hiking in the Canadian Rockies, a posh high tea at a resort is a wonderful change. A play in London or haute cuisine in Buenos Aires is worth dressing for, and may well be among your fondest memories. Tip: Think simplicity and good quality, and you'll fit in anywhere.Water gear - Almost all vacations include water in some way: pool, ocean, lake, river, hot springs or water park. Make sure everyone has good swim suits, those all-terrain sandals, water shoes, or rubber flip flos, water wings if needed.Make Room For "Must Haves"Daytime gear - Few things are as useful as some kind of day pack or fanny pack that lets you carry money, sunglasses, lip balm, a guide book, water bottle, snacks, sweaters etc. while leaving your hands free. Get one for each member of the family and spread the goodies around so no one feels like a pack animal.Toiletries - Get water-proof pouches (no leaking) for each person's toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body lotion. Pouches should be big enough for personal must-haves like lip gloss or hair gel, but small enough to pack easily. Tip: Currently there are regulations for carry-on luggage - bottles must be 3 oz or less in a transparent pouch.Emergency kit - Don't lose time because of small emergencies. Take along a mini sewing kit, a good all-purpose foldable tools (e.g. Swiss army knife), a conversion plug for any electrical you're taking along (110/ 220) and small flashlights. Flashlights are great for little ones to have bedside in strange hotels, and useful when exploring unexpectedly dark places.Medical -Take everything in clearly marked original containers (to avoid hassles at customs). Take a small pouch of antibiotics, aspirin, anti-itch, anti-fungal, band aids, thermometer, and tweezers. Yes, you can get these things abroad, but do you want to be searching a strange place at 2:00 am?Pass times - You know best what to take: playing cards, iPods and CD players, books, Legos - whatever you and your kids like that can be stowed in a carry-on. Buy a few brand-new, small and inexpensive toys as surprises for long plane trips (especially important with toddlers, but all ages love this). Being trapped in a seat can be less frustrating with the distraction of a new plaything. Remember: it's the novelty that counts here - better five cheap new toys than one or two more expensive things. Stuffed animals are also great traveling companions.Packing for infants and toddlers - Imagine that you're going for a long weekend to a childless friend's house and pack your diaper bag accordingly. You'll be able to buy all the usual favorite items (sippy cups, bottles, formula, diapers, wipes etc.) at local pharmacies or grocery stores, but you want to have a good three days before making that stop.Tip: For toddlers, pack a few instant hot cereal, instant rice, and other just-add-water packets. They'll come in handy at restaurants where nothing on the menu appeals to your little one.Memory MakersYou'll want to remember this trip, and be able to share it with others.Camera - A digital camera is a great way to share pictures on the Internet, and also to have lots of stuff for your scrapbooks when you come back. Also, a disposable camera or a waterproof camera is fun for the kids.JournalsTravel journal - Writing in journals is a good pass-time on trains, boats, planes, at night in hotels - and will bring memories to life in years to come. (Bring extra pencils and pencil sharpeners too.)Sketch pads - Even if you think your kids can't draw, pack pads and colored pencils. There are 101 ways kids use art, not always in the expected ways: scrap book, hang man, pressings, etc.Address book - Encourage the kids to write down the full names and addresses of friends. Postcards are fun to send and all kids love getting mail. Don't forget teachers, relatives, neighbors. Also, bring a list of e-mail addresses. On your trip, stop into an Internet cafe to send speedy mail to family and friends.Where to ShopDon't have time to run back and forth to the mall? Consider online shopping. We've found a few companies that sell really good quality, useful things perfect for traveling, for both adults and kids. For years we've bought their luggage, and travel gear, so we feel good about suggesting them to you, and now you can buy online.Travel accessories - Magellan's Travel Supplies is where you can find all those adapter plugs, locks and luggage straps, packing organizers, travel pillows, money belts, traveltotes and more.
Luggage and backpacks - eBags has a huge selection of luggage for kids and adults. They have kid-size backpacks and roller bags, baby travel beds, and toddler bags. Kids will enjoy picking out their own luggage, and then running around the house with their bags in anticipation of your trip.Travel Books - You'll sometimes will need a guide to travel to different places suited for your family. It will be hard and expensive to find a tour guide. So where else, then to have a guide right by your home computer and your hands. Southeast Asia Travel Guide @ [http://www.southeastasia-guide.com]

Rod Stewart Booking Information

Rod Stewart was always known as one of rock & roll's best singers. Furthermore, he is also well known as an accomplished songwriter. Rod Stewart mastered the creation of a unique and raw genre by combining folk, rock, blues, and country unheard of even today. Rod separated the folk in rock and made it rocked well alone. As Stewart climbs the ladder of success and fame, he managed to lose the core of the elements that be famed him. Yet, he managed to uphold a well deserved title as a superb singer. If I am correct he even, like we said in the industry "sell out" his true artistic path to the popular pop trend.Did you know? Rod Stewart, before fame and fortune, started out as alumnae of the Brentford Football Club. And at the dawn of the 60's He also toured Europe with folk singer Wizz Jones that landed him in trouble with the law for vagrancy and was kicked out of Spain. In 1963, Rod Stewart finds himself in England, where he joined the birmingham-based R&B group Jimmy Powell & the Five Dimensions. He starred as a vocalist and harmonica player. They toured the U.K., recorded one single with Pye Records. That single had Rod Stewart on blues harp. Shortly there after his descent to London, Rod Stewart joined Long John Baldry's band, the Hoochie Coochie Men. Again he recorded a single in 1964, "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl." The single went nowhere.Summer of 1965, Rod Stewart and the group joined the Rolling Stones and the Walker Brothers on a U.K. tour. During that time they recorded an album that never released until 1970. After the band flopped, they changed their name to Steampacket which in early 1966, were disbanded and Rod Stewart became a member of the blues-rock combo Shotgun Express. They released one single that failed before even splitting. Rod Stewart then joined the Jeff Beck Group at the end of 1966. The era of the Jeff Beck Group, Rod Stewart may have found his steps up the ladder of stardom. Rod Stewart and a former Yardbird guitarist teamed up to become the standard blueprint for heavy metal. In the fall of 1968, the band's debut album was released and quickly became a hit in both America and Britain. During 68 and 69 The Jeff Beck Group toured both countries several times. It was their claim to fame as they gathered a sleuth of dedicated following. The band released their second album in the summer of 1969 called "Beck-Ola". Again became another hit record in both the U.S. and U.K. Unfortunately, the group was dismantle in the fall. After his trial and tribulations with different bands, rejecting an offer to join the American rock group Cactus, Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck Group bassist Ron Wood joined the Small Faces. He replaced the departed vocalist and guitarist Steve Marriott. After shuffling the members around within the band, the group decided to shortened their name to just the Faces and recorded their debut album, "First Step."While with the group, Rod Stewart signed a solo contract. Under which he released his first solo album "An Old Raincoat Won't Let You Down" which was changed for its American debut in 1969. It did not make the record chart in the U.K. But it did climb to 139 on the U.S. charts. Finally, in the spring of 1970, The Faces released "First Step". The album did better in the U.K. than it did in the U.S., but the group's popularity on both continents was a force to reckon with even with their reckless and messy live shows. In the fall of 1970, Rod Stewart decided to release his second solo album "Gasoline Alley" which he supported with a U.S. tour. After that, his career seems to be pivotal. Early 1971, the Faces released their second album "Long Player" which became a bigger hit than "First Step". Well, ladies and gentlemen, Rod Stewart third album "Every Picture Tells a Story" not only made Rod Stewart a household name, but also reached #1 in both America and the U.K. Not bad, Go Rod. Although "Reason to Believe" was the first single on the album, it was till the DJs started to fell the b side of the album and started playing it, it became #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K... The single was called "Maggie May." It was a number one for five straight weeks."A Nod Is as Good as a Wink...To a Blind Horse", The Faces sophomore album was released a couple of months later. Due to the success of "Every Picture Tells a Story" the album was a Top Ten hit in both countries; it also launched the single "Stay with Me," which became the only Top 40 hit in the U.S for Stewart's group.
Rod Stewart was about to face another trial of his career as his solo career start to skyrocket. During his spring tour with The Faces, tensions start to flair between the members. That same summer, he released his fourth solo album "Never a Dull Moment" which nearly repeated the success of "Every Picture Tells a Story". The album rose to number two in the U.S. and number one in the U.K.As a group The Faces, in the spring of 1973, released their final album "Ooh La La." The Album hit number one in the U.K. and number 21 in the U.S. Early 1974 the "Pool Hall Richard" single was released and the band members part their ways. It was the end of a great era.At the peak of his career, Stewart released "Smiler" in the fall of 1975. "Smiler" followed the footsteps of his previous hit albums.Rod Stewart decided to settle down a bit. In March of 1975, he began a love affair with Swedish actress Britt Ekland. At that time, he faced a huge problem with the tax collectors of the U.K. I believed he paid his dues and apply for citizenship in the U.S. to pay more taxes. Oops, did I say that. What are you thinking, Rod?
With a new citizenship at hand meant to adapt to changes. Well in the summer of 1975 he released "Atlantic Crossing". This album made him truly an American superstar. A pop artist was born. He recorded with producer Tom Dowd and the Muscle Shoals rhythm section that helped him remove his British roots with a more pop flavor. At the end of the year, Rod Stewart left the Faces and the band finally called it quits. Rod did not think twice, he successfully followed a pop career which landed him multiple platinum albums. As his first "Tonight's The Night" became his first platinum album. It stayed number one on the pop chart for 8 weeks.Rod Stewart next album incorporated some disco to his musical formula for 1978's "Blondes Have More Fun". Supported by the number one single "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?," the record became Rod Stewart 's first number one album since "Every Picture Tells a Story" It sold over four-million records. Boy, didn't he become a bad boy of rock. He dated a sleuth of actresses and models, I mean super models.
In 1993, Ron Wood and Rod Stewart got back together for an MTV Unplugged concert. The same album hit the Top Ten hit single, "Have I Told You Lately." In 1995, his album "A Spanner in the Works", showed another facet of Rod Stewart's talent as a more polished artist, scoring another hit with Tom Petty's "Leave Virginia Alone." The following year, Rod Stewart released "If We Fall in Love Tonight" which was comprised of both previously released and new material. In 1998 "When We Were the New Boys" was released and in early 2001 Stewart's "Human" followed. In 2002, Rod Stewart released the first "Great American Songbook" album. In the direction of Clive Davis of J Records and with songs written by legends such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin, the album and its follow-ups have been smashing successes. The first album from the songbook series "It Had to Be You ... The Great American Songbook" reached number 4 on the U.S. album chart, number 8 in the UK and number 10 in Canada when released in late 2002. The track "These Foolish Things" reached number 13 on the Billboard adult contemporary charts and number 2 in Taiwan. "They Can't Take That Away From Me" went top 20 on the world internet charts and top 30 on the adult contemporary charts. The Great American Songbook 2 topped number 2 in the U.S., number 4 in the UK and number 1 in Canada. "Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered", a duet with Cher went top 20 on the U.S. adult contemporary charts and top 5 in Taiwan. "Time After Time" was another top 30 track on the U.S. adult contemporary charts.
In November of 2003 on the 7th to be exact, a musical featuring many of Stewart's songs opened at London's Victoria Palace theatre. The musical was written and directed by Ben Elton, who previously created similar production "We Will Rock You" music by Queen.Again in 2004, Stewart joined Ron Wood for reunion concerts of The Faces music's. The joint effort paid off with the released of The Faces best of Changing Faces reached the top 20 of the UK album charts. "Five Guys Walk Into A Bar" "Faces box set compilation" was well known as a "must have" in Rock & Roll history. Together with Ron Wood he is still working on the album You Sing I'll Strut. In late 2004, Stardust ... The Great American Songbook Volume III, the third album in the series, was released. It was his first U.S. number 1 album in 25 years, selling over 200,000 albums in its first week. It also debuted at #1 in Canada, #3 in the UK and top ten in Australia. His version of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World", featuring Stevie Wonder has made the top 20 of the world adult charts. PAT Testing - Earth Continuity Test

This test is carried out on all Class I appliances during PAT Testing. The purpose of the test is to check that there is a good connection between the Earth pin on the plug and the case of the appliance. A good connection is defined as having a resistance of less than 0.1 ohms (or 100 milliohms). The Earth Continuity test is sometime referred to as the Earth Bond test or the Earth Resistance test. In effect they all measure that there is a good connection between the mains plug and the Earth point. The conventional way to carry out this test is to plug the appliance into a PAT Tester and clip the Test lead to a suitable earth point. When the test is done, if the resistance measured is less than 0.1 ohms, then there is a good earth connection and the appliance is considered safe. When carrying out this test during PAT testing, there are a number of practical things to be taken into consideration.Earth point on applianceIn order to carry out this test, it is important of course to clip the test lead to a suitable earth point. If this is not done, then there is no return path for the current during PAT testing. This will result in the appliance failing the test.Finding a suitable earth point will come with experience. It is essential to get a good connection to the Earth point. Rusty metal or scaling on kettle elements may prevent a good low resistance connection. If this is the case then rotate the connector and use the teeth of the crocodile clip to scrape away the rust or the scaling to get a good connection. It is also acceptable to clip onto a screwdriver and use this to connect to an Earth point. The Golden Rule is: When testing Earth Continuity, if you do get a fail initially, do not immediately fail the appliance. Make sure you have a good connection and try PAT testing again. If necessary try a different Earth point as not all metal parts might be connected to earth.PAT testing - Class I Plastic appliancesOn some Class I appliances it may not be possible to access an external earth point if the appliance is totally enclosed in plastic. For example there are many electric fans in use which fall into this category. This presents us with a problem because if we cannot connect the test lead to an earth point, there is no circuit made and the Earth Continuity test will fail.On these appliances, it is important to recognise that their construction makes them safer than conventional Class I metal appliances. As well as having an Earth connection, they essentially are enclosed in plastic giving them an extra layer of safety. The way to carry out PAT testing on these appliances is to still carry out the Insulation Resistance Test. If this passes, then record this pass on the Equipment Test Record and make a comment to the effect that the earth Continuity test could not be carried out due to the plastic enclosure.PAT Testing - Test CurrentThe person carrying out the testing can use one of the two options below.Option 1: Use a test current of 1.5 times the fuse fitted in the plug up to a maximum of 25A. For example, when testing a kettle with a fuse of 13A, a test current of 25A should be used. When testing a lamp fitted with a fuse of 3A, a test current of around 4.5A is used. The current is normally applied for a period of between 5 and 20 seconds. This test should NOT be used on IT or other equipment where there are electronic components in use. The large currents flowing in the earth conductor has been known to induce surge voltages that have damaged electronic components.Option 2: Use a test current of between 20 and 200 mA. Whilst this test is being carried out the cable should be flexed to bring out any obvious faults. This is very safe test and can be used on ALL Class I appliances including IT equipment.PAT Testing - Test LimitsAs mentioned above, to pass this test, the Earth Continuity resistance has to be less than 0.1 ohm when PAT testing is carried out. As this is from the pin on the plug to the Earth point, an allowance can be made for the Mains lead that is used on the appliance. For example, a Class I lamp has a 5m mains lead (current capacity of 3A) attached to it. The total resistance of this lead is 0.195 ohms. To this one would add the 0.1 ohms for the appliance itself to give a limit of 0.295 ohms. When testing this lamp for earth Continuity, if the resistance was say 0.22 ohms, then one would pass the appliance. Say a PC has a 5m cable of current capacity 13A. The total resistance of this is 0.078 ohms. The pass limit for this PC would be 0.1 + 0.078 which is 0.178 ohms.If the appliance has a short mains lead, then this will not contribute a lot to the earth resistance. For example a 1m cable for an electric fire would have a resistance of only 0.015 ohms. When using a PAT Tester with a display, the user will be able to work out whether the appliance passes or fails whilst taking the length of the mains lead into account. On Pass/fail PAT Testers, there is an automatic allowance made for the mains lead. Typically the limit is set to around 0.25 ohms to allow for up to 5m of mains cable. On some Pass/Fail PAT Testers, allowance can also be made for longer cables, say when testing 10m or 20m extension leads.
